Allen-Bradley, which was acquired by Rockwell Automation in 2013, is a leading industrial manufacturer of programmable logic controllers (PLC), sensors, drives, software, HMI, motors, motor control centers, and much more. Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Automation are a globally recognized brand providing excellence and reliability as an industrial automation and information technology company. Founded by Dr. Staton Allen and Lynde Bradley, Allen-Bradley is a company with a rich history that dates back to over a century ago. Allen-Bradley started off as Compression Rheostat Company back in 1903 and later changed its name. Today, it portrays a recognizable brand, and as of 1997, Allen-Bradley is a division of the Rockwell Automation Inc., one of the largest companies devoted to industrial automation worldwide.

The Allen-Bradley 1791-32B0 is a discrete block I/O module. A total of 32 inputs and 0 outputs are available with this input module, with groups of 8 inputs in each group. It has a 24 Volts DC input voltage, a maximum off-state voltage of 5 Volts DC, and an on-state voltage range of 10-30 Volts DC. On-state current is a minimum of 2.5 milliamps at 10 Volts and a maximum of 11 milliamps at 30 Volts and the off-state current is a minimum of 1.5 milliamps. Its maximum input impedance is 3.4K Ω and its external power is 19.2-30 Volts DC for the voltage and 300 milliamps for the current. The entire module measures 6.95 x 4.35 x 3.85 inches. It can be mounted on a DIN rail mount and compatible cables are the Belden 9463 for the remote I/O link and a 14 AWG stranded wire with a 3/64-inch insulation for the input and output wiring. This module has an isolation of 500 Volts AC for the power supply to remote I/O, I/O group-to-group, and I/O group-to-logic. The maximum power dissipation is 16.3 Watts and thermal dissipation is 55.6 BTU/hour.

It is compatible with the 1771 series of output modules if the module’s off-state leakage current is less than that of the minimum off-state current of the block module and the minimum on-state voltage of the DC block input is more than the supply voltage minus the on-state voltage drop across the 1771 output module. It is also compatible with the pure coil 100-A45 contactors and Type F, Type P, and Type PH relays.  Note that the devices using the 1791-32B0 block input module should have on-state voltages and currents within the on-state region of the block I/O module. Off-state currents and voltages should also fall within the off-state region of the block input module. This module has removable terminal strips on the left and right sides for input, output, remote I/O, and power connections. Two switch assemblies are available and it is for setting the I/O rack number, communication rate, starting I/O group, last state, and last chassis. Status indicators present in the 1791-32B0 module allow you to monitor the statuses of the input/output and communication. It can be connected to PLC-2, PLC-3, PLC-5/250, and PLC-5 programmable controllers and SLC 5/02 modular controllers.
